Put Yourself On the Top of Your To Do List Challenge

Yesterday I did a thing…. (This is a bit long, but there’s a point to this along with a challenge for you! 😉)

I woke up with the worst migraine. Really I’ve had it most of the week but it started off mild and has been building in intensity by the day. When it reached the point where I was barely functioning, I gave in and decided it was time to take a day off because I couldn’t keep letting this build.

Let’s be honest here (If you know me you know what I’m about to say), I didn’t want to take the day off. All sorts of upcoming things have been weighing heavily on my mind and causing me to stress about how I will be able to do it all on time. When I stress or have a lot going on, I don’t sleep well because my mind doesn’t shut down at night. But I decided to push it all aside, only do those things I absolutely had to, and forget the rest… truly take a day off which is incredibly rare for me.

I took time to sit and plan which was something I didn’t take the time to do like I normally would on Friday nights. And it was slow going with my inability to focus well. But that was ok because it isn’t like I had things to do with it being a day off. I even took one break to go order some custom stickers that I really needed. 😂 And although I had my computer turned on in front of me, I really stayed offline for the most part all day. I looked at it if someone messaged me, but I didn’t scroll Facebook or really pay it any attention. It was on more out of habit.

When I finally finished planning, I felt like organizing some of my stickers. This has been another stressor for me lately because the samplers and kit leftovers have been piling up and finding anything is becoming a nightmare and I’m running out of places to put them. But it is a huge task and I just haven’t found time. I took out my reusable sticker books, tweezers, and the jammed packed basket of samplers and sat down in the living room with them. A new Hallmark movie was coming on and I was going to be there to watch it. By this point, my migraine had gone down to a mild headache. While I debated turning on the computer to do some designing instead (I had shut it down before dinner since I really wasn’t actively on it), it stayed off the rest of the night and I spent the time organizing stickers and watching Hallmark movies. 😊 Ummm…. that was the most productive organizing session I have had! Check out that stack of empty sheets!

Not only was it enjoyable, but it helped relieve some of that stress from the disorganization of it all. I went to bed relaxed and feeling accomplished. Nothing from my long to do list got done, yet I felt at peace with how the day went and not a single bit stressed about anything. I even got SLEEP! Like, no mind racing with all the tasks I have to do or worrying about things or anything. I woke up this morning feeling refreshed, recharged, and ready to take on this list. And even migraine free, I might add.

My point in telling you about my day yesterday is this… take time for you no matter what. Seriously! You never know how much you truly need it or how it will help your overall wellbeing or productivity unless you do it. You may think you don’t have time for yourself, but do you really have time not to take care of you?

This week I’m challenging you to PUT YOURSELF ON THE TOP OF YOUR TO DO LIST. Whether it be a an hour or a whole day…. just do something you enjoy, take your mind off everything that is stressing you (literally push it aside and not think about it), focus on doing whatever it is you want to do and truly relax. And I don’t want you to feel guilty about it afterwards. Investing those hours/day in yourself is not a waste of time or something to feel guilty about. Taking care of yourself IS being productive! It’s something I often forget too. But this is why I’m challenging you to DO IT! You’ll feel so much better and be way more productive and efficient at getting things done afterwards. You can thank me later. 😉

Once you complete this challenge, come back and leave a comment to share what you did and how it helped you! I want to hear about it!
